Questions like these are asked by both new and experienced network marketers. Here's a short list of questions that come to the front of the class.
Should I lead with my product or opportunity?

What do I do if I don't want to "make a list of friends and family" to prospect?
Where can I find the best source for leads?
How do I get the word out about my business without going broke first?

Real marketing is a numbers game. The secret to successful prospecting is developing the right message, bringing that message to the right audience and doing this over and over to as many people as possible.

Here is what market research shows about people, and where they are in the buying cycle.
3 percent of the population are in the market to buy right now. This sector of the market
have done the research and are ready to make a decision.
7 percent of the population is open to the idea of buying. This sector of the market may
be dissatisfied with their current item or provider and are not opposed to change, but
may not yet be “buying now.”
90 percent fall into one of three equal categories.
The top third (30%) are what I call “not thinking about it.” They are not against it, not for
it, but just “not thinking about it.” So if you sell health care or skin care and you ran an
ad, this 30 percent would not respond because they’re just not thinking about nutritional
products right now.
The middle third (30%) fall into the “think they’re not interested” category. They are not
neutral like the first third. They would reply, “I don’t think I’m interested in nutritional
products."
The final third (30%) are “definitely not interested.” These folks are happy with what
they have or just simply know they don’t need it. They may not take any supplements at
all or they might think what they are taking now is fine. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Think of it like this. You have a huge stadium full of people who are there to hear you speak. Right before you walk out there, the audience is told: “You have to come, but you do not have to stay. If this person [you] talks about something that is of no interest to you, you can simply get up and leave.”
If you walk out there and say, “I’m here to tell you why I have the greatest nutrition supplements in the world,” 90 percent of the audience will get up and leave. If you have ever spoke in public you know you don't want that to happen.
So let’s re-think your opening stadium title. What could you say that would keep virtually every one in their seats? This is important because whatever that title is that would get all those potential buyers to stay and hear more is the same approach to use in your prospecting.
What title would have a broader appeal? How about “The Five Disturbing Trends In Health That Are Affecting You?"
I’m not saying this is going to rivet'em to their chairs, but they’re not leaving either. They’ll stay to hear a little more. This is also true for an ad with that headline. It’s definitely going to appeal to the top two tiers, but it also appeals to every one in that stadium. Everyone is interested in their health, they just may not know it.
This is how you take your marketing and selling activity to an entirely new level. The hardest thing about marketing and prospecting these days is grabbing the attention of potential buyers and keep their attention long enough to help them buy your product.
This approach of offering some education of value to them gives you a significant opportunity to attract more buyers and build more credibility. I call this “education-based marketing,” and here’s a line you should commit to memory: you will attract far more buyers if you offer to teach them something of value than you will ever attract by simply trying to sell them your product or service.
Let's re-cap:
1. Offering educational material that will help the buyer, will generate more buyer interest.
2. If the information is actually good and useful, it automatically repositions you in the mind
of the buyer as much more of an expert than all your competitors. (Teach them things
about their own business that they might not know.)
3. Weave your product information into your educational marketing material such a way that
it ultimately sells your product or services far better than you could ever sell them by
simply flat-out pitching your product.
Your ultimate goal is to build a business that offers a product that provides value to your customers.
Long term residual income will come from having an organization that will work for you. The best thing about network marketing is you are working with people who are "business owner minded" it's these "business owners" that will provide you with the residual income of your dreams.
